Kevork Yeramian (in Armenian Գէորգ Երամեան, in Arabic كيورك يره ميان) was a Syrian-Armenian architect who spent his career in Aleppo, Syria. Most of his architectural works are located in Aleppo, in addition to some in Damascus, Kessab, and other towns in Syria. Kevork Yeramian became a member of the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) NGO of the Aleppo branch, Syria, in 1972.
His main architectural contributions include theaters, restaurants, swimming pools, commercial shops, community centers, Armenian Genocide memorials and monuments, privately owned apartments and houses, and more. Kevork Yeramian was also a member of the Armenian Union of Architects. For more details, please refer to the Biography section of this site.
BIOGRAPHY
Kevork Yeramian was born in the Nor Kugh (new village, in Armenian Õ†Õ¸Ö€ Ô³Õ«Ö‚Õ²) district of Aleppo, Syria, on 4th of May 1949. He attended the Lazar Najarian-Calouste Gulbenkian middle school and high school in Aleppo. After graduation from high school he enrolled in the University of Aleppo, Faculty of Architecture. After receiving his degree in architecture in 1974, he served in the Syrian Air Force as part of his mandatory military service of 3 years.
In the mid 1990s, Kevork Yeramian had an infection that gave him ulcerative colitis (UC). For years to come, he was on multiple daily medication that were the most probable cause of his heart failure on the 1st of September 2009.
Kevork Yeramian was married to Maroush Kazanjian, in 1981. They stayed married until his last days. Together they have two children; a son and a daughter. While they were married, his wife Maroush Yeramian received the doctorate degree in West-Armenian literature from the Yerevan State University, Armenia.
Kevork Yeramian was a holder of the Greek citizenship in addition to his Syrian citizenship by birth.
He was a passionate books and arts lover and a painter during his free time.
Membership and Activities in the AGBU
Kevork Yeramian was an active member of the Armenian General Benevolent Union (AGBU) non-governmental organization, the Aleppo chamber, since 1972.
Under the operational supervision of the AGBU, he was the headmaster of the Saryan arts academy (named after the renowned Armenian painter Martiros Saryan) for the years 1984-1986, 1986-1988, 1988-1990, and 1996-1998. From 2007 to 2009 he was a member of the real-estate committee of AGBU Aleppo.
After years of service, he became a veteran member of the AGBU until his last days.
